Seeing the land in person is the best filter, and from San Diego it takes a morning. Here is what to know before you leave.
The route
Cross at San Ysidro and follow the signs for “Rosarito / Ensenada Scenic Road.” The scenic toll road (1D) hugs the ocean and gets you to Rosarito in about 30 minutes. The corridor developments are farther south, between kilometers 36 and 44.
What to bring
- A valid passport or passport card. You need it to come back.
- Mexican auto insurance. Your U.S. policy does not cover liability in Mexico; you can buy coverage online by the day.
- Cash for tolls, in pesos or dollars.
- Comfortable shoes: you will be walking a piece of land.
The return
The northbound border wait varies a lot. Weekdays and early hours are quicker; Sunday afternoon is the slowest. Check border wait times before you head back.
Planning the visit
Tell us the day and time. We meet you at the Plaza Coral office on the free road and go to the developments together. You can see two or three in a morning.
If you can’t cross
We send video and a map pin by WhatsApp, and we meet by appointment in San Ysidro.
